Believe it or not, our kitchens need a refrigerator. A kitchen can never truly be without one. Imagine one day that you have to go home to the sight and smell of, for example, rotting meat. Not a very pleasing experience now is it?

The refrigerator started from a basic design to a now more cosmopolitan one. The ref now has a variety of designs and features. Refs now come with different colors, as well as different types. Some specific features of a modern day ref are a tv built into the door and a computer which allows you to order and re-order food and beverages while on the world wide web.

A refrigerator isn't cheap now. A modern ref costs hundreds of dollars these days. Furthermore, choosing the type of ref you want or need can by quite overwhelming since your going to think about what features you are looking for, as well as your budget for the ref.

As time went on though, refs have been dubbed as somewhat "unsightly", meaning to say, they have become "eyesores", so to speak. The makers of these refs have been brought to attention regarding that state of a ref and have since then made refs that fit more into the whole color schematic of the kitchen. This is what is called a counter depth refrigerator and it is one of the latest trends to hit the ref market today.

But what is a counter depth refrigerator?

As it suggests, it is a ref that is made to look like a regular counter top or a cabinet. It is conveniently "camouflaged". It doesn't really give itself away unless closely inspected. It "blinds" in with the overall décor of your kitchen. The ref is no longer considered and "eyesore" thanks to this innovation.

One nifty thing about it is that your kitchen can now be designed with functionality in mind. Now, you don't have to think much about where the ref should go. One slight disadvantage thought is that a counter depth ref isn't very big, so storage can become a problem.

They do fit well with the overall "flow" of a kitchen. A multitude of designs makes sure that a counter depth ref goes along with your countertops and cabinets. Some features are absent in it though. For example, the absence of an ice, as well as a water dispenser is apparent since a counter depth ref is meant to it in with the "flow" of a kitchen.

Its door design is also as varied as the color scheme. You can choose to have a counter depth ref have it's freezer at the bottom, for example.

It also comes in different designs, styles and sizes. As previously mentioned, a counter depth ref has smaller space compared to its bigger brother but put two counter depth refs side by side and you'll have cold storage space that can rival that of the standard ref, maybe even more.

It is meant to fit in to the whole "flow" of a kitchen. It adds functionality to an otherwise "crowded" kitchen. A counter depth ref is more expensive compared to its bigger brother but it does become worth the investment if you want to have every appliance in your kitchen "fit in".
